Kodak DC 210 Plus
Eastman Kodak's new DC210 Plus megapixel digital camera is the revamped
version of its identical brother, Kodak's DC210 model. Appearances
aside, the DC210 Plus offers some significant improvements over its
sibling while maintaining the excellent image quality expected from a
Kodak camera. Some of the more noticeable improvements the
DC210 Plus offers include a bundled 8MB removable CompactFlash memory
card, faster recovery times between shots, a multilingual LCD screen,
the ability to stamp a date on pictures, and a unique "About" feature
that details the number of images taken with and without a flash during
the camera's lifetime. Other notable features include the
DC210 Plus' infrared capabilities, which allow users to transfer images
to a computer without using a serial cable (which is included). Also,
the camera has seven available templates that allow users to add
borders to images. We experimented with a floral template that set a
border of daffodils around our images. The DC210 Plus
captures images in either 1152 x 864 or 640 x 480-pixel resolutions.
Between 26 and 120 images are stored on the removable card depending on
the Good, Better, or Best image-quality setting selected. Images are
saved in either JPEG or FlashPix files. Images we captured
at 1152 x 864 pixels were extremely sharp and focused. Both our indoor
and outdoor images were very bright and contained a full range of true
colors. We were particularly impressed with the vibrant colors of our
outdoor photos and the dark shades of the shots we took under
fluorescent lighting, which were extremely detailed and vivid.
We framed our images using the camera's viewfinder and 1.8-inch color
LCD on the back of the camera. Scroll buttons and an easy-to-use Mode
dial with Capture, Review, and Preferences settings enabled us to move
through the camera's many functions with little trouble. You can view
images individually or in a thumbnail slide show. The camera can delete
images individually or one at a time. The DC210 Plus has a
motorized 2x zoom lens (29-59mm equivalent) with auto focus, auto and
manual exposure settings, auto white balance, a 10-second self timer,
video-out capabilities, a macro setting for close-up shots, and an
automatic flash with fill-in, red-eye reduction, fill in/red-eye, and
off settings. The DC210 Plus isn't perfect; the LCD was
noticeably blurry and we didn't like its location in the lower
left-hand corner of the camera, but its excellent images, quality
bundled software, and ease of use put it in the forefront of megapixel
digital cameras we've seen in this price range. —Blaine Flamig Kodak DC 210 Plus Eastman Kodak $599 |
